Mansfield Lake Ridge spoils Mansfield homecoming, Garland continues perfect season with win over Sachse, McKinney Boyd outlasts Little Elm

Mansfield Lake Ridge spoils Mansfield's homecoming with a 44-37 victory after their defense held Mansfield to a turnover on downs with a minute left in the game. Freshman quarterback Kennen Miller completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 214 yards and 4 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 132 yards on 17 carries. Marcus Bryce caught 4 passes for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lake Ridge had many sophomores and juniors play important snaps in this game. Mansfield running back Tyrell Croom ran for 102 yards on 18 carries and 3 touchdowns. Dhevin Mosley caught 7 passes and scored two touchdowns for Mansfield. Mansfield quarterback Sergio Kennedy threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Lake Ridge safety Corey Thompson put pressure on the quarterback all night long. Lake Ridge running back Marcus Hayes had three total touchdowns with two rushing and one receiving. Lake Ridge will look to carry the momentum of this win into next week as they face Waco.

Garland defeated Sachse 54-41 in a track meet to move to 7-0 on the season. The Owls are led by quarterback Cergio Perez who accounted for 7 total touchdowns. Perez threw for 322 yards and 6 touchdowns on 20 of 24 passing. The Owls were down 14-6 early, but the deficit did not phase the high-powered offense of Garland. Garland running back Jayshon Powers also ran for 111 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Garland also has a pair of dynamic receivers in Jordan Hudson and Ellis Rogers that combined for 16 catches, 284 receiving yards, and 6 touchdown receptions. Sachse quarterback Alex Orji threw for 267 yards on 16 of 26 passing and threw a touchdown pass. Orji also rushed for 132 yards and scored five touchdowns on the ground. The Virginia Tech commit Alex Orji put on a clinic, but it was not enough to hold off the Garland Owls that have a district championship on their mind. The Owls will continue their chase for perfection as they take on North Garland on Friday.

McKinney Boyd moves to 6-0 on the season and 2-1 in district 5-6A. In the toughest district in the state the Broncos have looked very impressive. Although, Little Elm had 300 more yards than Mckinney Boyd did, the Lobos were not able to pull off the win. Boyd used big plays in the special teams game and a late touchdown by Caden Park to fuel them to victory. McKinney Boyd running back Carter Whitefield ran for 78 yards and scored three touchdowns. Little Elm quarterback John Mateer accounted for 469 total yards- 326 passing and 143 rushing- for 4 total touchdowns. McKinney Boyd has only lost to Allen this season. They will look to continue their winning ways next week as they take on Denton Guyer in a huge matchup next week.
