There are many great quarterbacks in the state of Texas, but one from the city of Garland has stood out above the rest so far this season. Cergio Perez is the quarterback for the Garland Owls. In four games this season the Owls have outscored their opponents 207-37. They are off to a 4-0 start and Perez has looked sensational through the first four games. Perez has thrown for 1225 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. Perez is a three year starter and in his third season things have really started to click for the Garland Owls. "It means a lot to be the leader at Garland, I really love the guys here and the coaches here," said Perez. Perez is really confident in his team this year. "Throughout the years there were ups and downs but we got through it and now I really think it is coming together now this year."
Furthermore, Perez said in everything he does on the field he wants to accomplish for his family. His motivation comes from the love he has for his family. "My family motivates me, I do everything for them and to make them proud," said Perez. When Perez talked about accomplishing something special at Garland, he kept it real simple, "I just want to go out and have fun with the people I've put so much work in with on and off the field," said Perez. That is the mindset of a true competitor that is torching opposing defenses and having fun playing the game he loves.
Perez mentioned that his head coach Robert Russell has had a huge impact on him as a person during his time at Garland. "Coach Russell has always been about me and has made sure I was taken care of since the day I walked into Garland," said Perez. Perez also mentioned that Russell is all about molding young men. "He has always been about building young men, and he's really been doing a great job about that."
Perez is a highly underrated quarterback in the state of Texas. The South Dakota commit said competing against other elite quarterbacks really elevates his play. "I think it really elevates my game to go out and show what I can do and that I can put up as much numbers as they can and lead my team," said Perez. Perez has really dominated the first four games of this season and has shown he is an elite quarterback in a stacked 2022 class.
Moreover, the mentality a quarterback brings to the field is very vital to how successful the offensive unit will be. Perez brings the same mentality to every game, which is take every opponent serious. "I go out every game play fast, and don't play down to any team we play or underestimate a teams ability, just play my game and put my team in the best position to win the game."
On Friday Night in the city of Garland, there is a showdown taking place at Williams Stadium between the the Garland Owls and the Naaman Forest Rangers. The magnitude of this game is huge, the winner of this game will have a tremendous advantage as district play is starting to heat up. Perez is poised for big moments like this, and he will look to continue is tremendous play on friday night.
