Week 4 Recap: McKinney Boyd Uses Blocked Extra Point to Fuel Victory, Guyer's High Powered Offense downs Atascocita, Mesquite Runs Past Arlington High
McKinney Boyd rallied from behind in the second half to defeat Byron Nelson 28-26 in a wild fourth quarter. McKinney Boyd running back Carter Whitefield fueled the Broncos rushing attack as he ran for 76 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts. His offensive line was physical and opened up holes as the game went on. Another key player that made big plays in the second half for the Broncos was Caden Park. He had 6 receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Byron Nelson battled back in the second half to tie the game at 26 with less than 3 minutes left in the game. The snap on the extra point attempt went over the head of the holder in which the kicker picked the ball up and was hit by Evan Dennis who recovered the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. This play ended up being the deciding factor of the game as Boyd won 28-26. Boyd is off to a 4-0 start and will look to continue their hot play as they start district.
Guyer exploded for 46 points in a 46-35 over Atascocita. Atascocita was off to an impressive start after defeating Allen a couple of weeks ago. Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold completed 70 percent of his passes on 41 attempts. Arnold threw for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns. The offensive line gave Arnold plenty of time to connect with Grayson O'Bara all night long. O'Bara had 9 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. The Guyer defense also forced two turnovers on the night. This adds another signature win to the list this season.
The rushing attack of Mesquite fueled them to victory. Mesquite running back Anthony Roberts rushed for 142 yards on 13 attempts and a touchdown. KD Lee also added 50 rushing yards and a touchdown. Chance Edwards threw for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was a back and forth game where Arlington never gave up. Arlington quarterback Ryley Zalusky threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rodney Talton Jr. also added 101 yards and a touchdown for the Colts. Although, the colts surged back in the second half, the Skeeters held on to win 49-35.
