The Road to AT&T Stadium Starts Thursday

The last week of August is here which means it is time for high school football in Texas. The season starts Thursday with a powerhouse matchup between Southlake Carroll and Highland Park. This will be the first chance to get a look at the new quarterbacks for each team. There is a standard that has been set at that position for both schools. Highland Park junior quarterback Brenan Storer will look to start his career by beating a 6A powerhouse. Storer holds four Division 1 offers from Illinois State, Kansas, Kent State, and Texas state. Storer is very accurate with his deep ball and has a strong arm. On the other side of this matchup, Southlake fans will get a first look at junior quarterback Kaden Anderson. Anderson will also be making his first start. Losing Ewers to Ohio State early is a hard thing to endure right before the season, but make no mistake Southlake still has as good of a shot as anyone to make a run at the state title. Owen Allen returning at running back will be huge for this team. This game will be televised on ESPNU on Thursday night. Parker's pick- Southlake Carroll.

Among powerhouse matchups in week 1 is Longview vs. Denton Ryan. Khalon Davis will be making his first start at quarterback for the Raiders. He has a strong arm and a unique ability to read coverages. He also has gotten stronger this year and is very mobile and can make accurate throws on the run. Longview will look to avenge themselves in week 1 after their season ended last year in the 2nd round against the defending champs. Ryan has been dominant for the past 5 years and they will look to defend the 5A D1 crown this season. Longview has a solid defense and a physical offensive line. They also have a 4-star receiver in Jalen Hale who is absolutely electric. Parker's pick- Denton Ryan. Duncanville will also take on the number 1 team in the country Mater Dei. This will be a battle between California and Texas. Over 40 athletes in this game have Division 1 offers. The defense of Duncanville is led by linebacker Jordan Crook and defensive lineman Omari Abor. They are unquestionably two of the most physical duos on the defensive side of the ball in the country. Offensively Duncanville is loaded with lots of talent and new faces. Oregon commits and offensive lineman Cam Williams will anchor the trenches for Duncanville in this game. Parker's pick- Duncanville.

It is an exciting time of year and the matchups in the first week are very competitive. It is the time of year where legends are made and the journey for immortality in Texas has begun. Underdogs will come alive, records will be broken, big hits will captivate the crowds, and late-game comebacks will happen. The season is back and it is Go-time!
