Rushing Attack Fuels Fossil Ridge Past Azle in a High Scoring Affair
Fossil Ridge defeated Azle 42-41 in a barn burner. Fossil Ridge rushed for 316 yards Thursday night and scored all their touchdowns on the ground. Running back Landen Chambers was a workhorse and rushed for 216 yards and 4 touchdowns. Chambers ran physically and it took 4 people to get him to the ground almost every time he touched the ball. Fossil Ridge had a physical offensive line that paved the way for the running backs to shine.
Azle quarterback Chris Lee threw for 217 yards and 3 touchdowns. Every time Fossil Ridge gained momentum, Lee would lead the Azle offense down the field with composure. Mason Wyble scored with 3 minutes left in the game to put Azle ahead 41 to 35.
Sophomore quarterback Logan Cundiff was poised the whole game. He rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns for the Fossil Ridge Panthers. He scored the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds left in the game. The sophomore was not phased by the big moment and delivered when it mattered most. "We ran the ball a lot and stuck to our gameplan, Landen is a beast and he got going tonight," said Cundiff. Cundiff was quick to praise his coaches and his teammates for the win. "I do this for our seniors, they deserve to go out with a winning season," said Cundiff. Chambers stated that they have been preparing all summer for this opportunity. "We have been in the weight room all summer long working for this opportunity," said chambers. Chambers gave credit to the physicality of his team. "We came out with a mentality to punch the other team in the mouth and that is what we did," said Chambers. Fossil Ridge Head Football Coach Derek Ramsey complimented the way Cundiff handled the pressure. "Logan played well and made plays for us tonight and came up big when we needed him the most," said Ramsey. Fossil Ridge is a young team and a win like that is just a boost of confidence moving forward to the next week. The atmosphere was loud and the season started off on a positive note for the Panthers of Fossil Ridge. Football is back in Texas and the Fossil Ridge Panthers delivered a stellar performance on both sides of the ball to give their team the win.
